What causes bad breath? It is the foods you eat? Could it be that you are not brushing and flossing like you know you should? Perhaps you have waited too long between dental visits or you smoke or drink a lot of coffee. All of these things, plus others like medical conditions, could negatively affect your breath. You don’t want bad breath, so don’t live with it. There are things you can do to combat this worrisome problem.

You know that there are a lot of products on the market that are designed to banish the bad breath forever, or at least for a little while. Some products work quite well and others will mask your rotten breath. The idea is for you to find what works for you and stick with the regimen. Good oral hygiene goes a long way in combating bad breath, but what if you can’t make it to the toothbrush and you dislike medicine-y mouthwash? There are plenty of other natural ways to fight off the bad breath.

Baking soda: It has been said before, but it is certainly worth mentioning again: baking soda helps fight off the bad breath problem. You can’t get much more natural than that. Plus, baking soda is easy to find at any grocery store and it is cheap. Many people like to dip their toothbrush into the powder and brush away. Make sure you rinse. Baking soda is an abrasive, so use is sparingly and gently. Repeated use can cause your gums to bleed. You can also add a little citric acid to your baking soda for added effect. Do this twice a day when you are most affected by bad breath and you are on your way.

Sea salt: Another natural way to fight off bad breath is sea salt. This is another natural remedy that works well for many people. Simply add it to your toothbrush twice a day and brush. Make sure that you rinse well. Pay careful attention to the back of your mouth and in between each crevice. Don’t forget to brush your tongue, too. You will find that sea salt actually works quite well.

Don’t diet too much: When you put yourself on a very restrictive diet, such as the diets that lack carbs, you are forcing your body into what is called ketosis. This causes low blood sugar and will give your breath an odd fruity odor. Make sure you keep your diet in check when you are concerned about your breath. On the flip side of that, remember that too much of the wrong kinds of foods can also cause bad breath. Fried and greasy foods are certainly culprits, as are refined carbohydrates and products with lots of sugar.

Drink lots of water: You know that drinking water is very good for you-it is also very good for your breath, too. When you become dehydrated, your dry mouth can get pretty stinky. Make sure you stay hydrated with good fluids and it will help your breath.

Anything that zaps the romance is a smooch quicker than bad breath. One should follow some steps to eliminate bad breath which often stops the romance. One should practice a good oral hygiene to kill the bacteria that cause bad breath. One should brush twice a day and floss once a day. One should always use an oral rinse. Going to the dentist twice a year is also a great idea. One should always have with them mints, sprays, mouthwash and gum mask bad breath in order to remove bad breath. One should always use a plastic spoon to scrape off white residue on your tongue which can be one of the reasons of bad breath or buy a tongue scraper at a drugstore. Brushing after eating foods such as milk, cheese and fish is also one of the ways to remove the bad breath. The collapse of protein in the mouth contributes to bad breath.

Emergency Solutions for eliminating bad breath

If one happens to find themselves in a situation where one have bad breath, and no gum, mouthwash, mint, or toothbrush is in sight then one should add about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of salt and preferably the same amount of baking soda to around 4-6 ounces of water. Stir the mixture properly and then gargle with the solution as one would with mouthwash. Salt is a product that can be found almost anywhere and in a pinch, no baking soda is required. New breeds of mouthwashes, however, are very effective in treating bad breath. These mouthwashes contains chlorine dioxide which actually attacks the volatile sulfur compounds on the molecular level.

Conclusion

People can brush and floss properly, however, and still be unsuccessful at eliminating bad breath. The problem is that odor causing bacteria often hide deep within the crevices of the tongue under a protective layer of mucus and proteins. Cleaning the tongue with a tongue cleaner can remove this layer of mucus and proteins exposing bacteria and freshening breath. A common misperception is that bad breath arises from the stomach. While an extremely small percentage of bad breath problems may be due to stomach and digestive problems, the overwhelming majority of bad breath arises from the back of the mouth. Here bacteria feed on mucus and food particles creating odorous sulfur compounds.

Raise your hand if you take the time to brush your tongue when you brush your teeth? It is not hard to do, yet few people actually take the time to do so. When you brush your teeth, you know you are getting all those tiny food particles from in between your teeth. But, you will also need to take the time to get the food particles that collect on your tongue.

If you don’t believe that you need to brush your tongue, then perform this little test. Go to the closest mirror. Stick your tongue out at yourself. Go ahead. Ahhhh, stick it out really far and look at it. What color is your tongue? Everyone knows that your tongue should be a healthy shade of pink. Does it look healthy? Does it look white? If it looks white, then you have a problem. Now, take a spoon and scrape it down your tongue and look at the spoon. What do you see? Do you see white gunk and build up on the spoon? That came from the inside of your mouth and that is what causes bad breath. If you can see it, you know that you and others can smell it, too.

Now that you know that brushing your tongue is important when it comes to halitosis, you need to know how to do it properly. If you practice good oral hygiene, then you should already know to brush your tongue each and every time you brush. You don’t need expensive or fancy equipment to do it either. All you really need is a toothbrush-and some of the new toothbrushes actually come with a scraper on the back or the side of the brush. Simply swipe it up and down your tongue a few times and rinse. It takes very little effort to keep your tongue clean and the mouth ickies away.

If you feel like it, you can buy different products and tools that will help you get your tongue nice and clean. One special product is actually a tongue scraper. It looks a little like a mini windshield scraper, only it is for your tongue. You will gently run the tool down your tongue and rinse. Another option is to run a piece of floss down your tongue a couple of times to help get it clean and germ free.

Here are some facts about keeping your tongue free of germs. When you properly brush and clean your tongue, it can reduce bad breath and halitosis by 85 percent. It makes sense that you would start here when you are having bad breath issues. In fact, another statistic shows that when you just clean your tongue, it can reduce the bad breath by 75 percent and brushing alone, with no tongue washing will only reduce the odor by 25 percent. When you take the time to make sure your tongue is clean and germ free, you are taking huge steps in making sure that your breath is nice and sweet, but also that you are doing all you can to fight germs and bacteria that can multiply in your mouth.

What causes bad breath? There are many rumors surrounding this embarrassing condition. Some people believe the odor comes from the mouth while others suppose that it must come from somewhere in the gastrointestinal tract.

Well, let the rumors be dispelled right now, as air can only escape from the esophagus in the form of the occasional burp. So unless you burp more often than normal, the cause of your bad breath may just come from something in your mouth.

While it is true that some forms of chronic bad breath may actually be caused by an underlying physical illness affecting the gastrointestinal tract, most bad breath cases are caused by bad oral hygiene. This goes without saying that one effective way to get rid of bad breath is to brush and floss your teeth and clean your mouth often.

In addition to practicing good oral hygiene, there are also certain steps you can take to get rid of bad breath. Below are just some of these steps:

Watch the Food You Eat

More often than not, the cause of temporary bad breath is the foods you eat. For instance, you may have eaten a meal and then suffered embarrassing bad breath later. You can blame the garlic, cabbage, or onions contained in your foods as these are rich in sulfur compounds which cause bad odor.

To get rid of bad breath caused by foods you ate, it is necessary to brush your teeth thoroughly after eating these kinds of foods. Or you can minimize your intake of these foods. You may also get rid of bad breath by using a good mouthwash but note that these liquid washes are only good for masking the odor. They do not really get rid of bad breath; at least not in the permanent sense.

Bacteria

Bacteria are also another cause of bad breath. Over 170 different types of bacteria live in the mouth. It’s no surprise really considering how bacteria love damp places and your mouth certainly is conducive to bacterial flora.

Now, if you do not brush your teeth after a meal, the bits of food left in your mouth become a virtual “feast” for these living bacteria. And in the process of metabolizing these, these bacteria produce volatile sulfur compounds which are extremely odorous.

To get rid of bad breath, you therefore need to remove these bacteria from your mouth. How? Well, take the fact that these bacteria are mostly anaerobic, meaning they cannot live in the presence of oxygen. In fact, the only way they even manage to survive in your mouth where oxygen passes through often is if they hide themselves behind plaque and food debris. If you get rid of these – plaque and food debris – then you get rid of bad breath.

There are many ways that you can combat your bad breath. For most people, having bad breath is not a chronic problem. Instead, it is a problem that people experience from time to time. Bad breath, also commonly called halitosis can stem from a variety of problems. Everything from the foods you eat to the medications you take can and will affect your breath. Luckily, there are things that you can do to wipe away the odor. Many people prefer a quick swish of mouthwash rather than sugary mints and gums.

If you take a walk down the oral hygiene isle at your local store, you will see that there are many different kinds of products on the market that will fight bad breath. There are pastes, brushes, flosses and mouthwash. Mouthwash is quite popular because it has an almost instant affect on the bad breath. However, with all the washes on the market, it may be hard to choose the right one.

As you look at the varying types of mouthwashes, there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, remember that there are over the counter mouthwashes and there are the ones that your dentist will prescribe. These are the extra strength ones-the ones that will give you a boost of fluoride, or help protect overly sensitive teeth. These mouthwashes do fall into two categories-the cosmetic mouthwashes and the therapeutic mouthwashes. When looking at cosmetic mouthwashes, these will be the ones that are relatively inexpensive and the ones that you can buy at any store. Therapeutic ones are often for a particular purpose, such as fighting plaque.

So, which ones are the best? If you are simply interested in fighting off bad breath every now and then, then take a look at the cosmetic varieties. There are all kinds of different flavors and strengths that will help get rid of the bad breath quickly. You should remember that when using this kind of mouthwash that it will not completely get rid of halitosis. It may help for awhile, but it will do nothing to promote oral health. Cosmetic mouthwashes are great for when you need a quick fix or between brushings, as the effect will be short lived.

Then you have the therapeutic varieties. These are the ones that are much stronger. In fact, you may find that if you are struggling with your teeth, your dentist may recommend one of these kinds of mouthwashes. These are excellent for oral health and can help with sensitive teeth, gum disease and a whole host of other oral hygiene problems and issues. These are much stronger, so it is not recommended that children use these and you must use cautions.

If you are suffering from bad breath, then a good mouthwash may be the answer for you. Take a look at the two types of mouthwashes and find one that works well. You can also ask your dentist or oral hygentist for advice before buying.

Whether it is your own or someone else’s, most of us suffers from bad breath. The condition is perhaps the most common and most embarrassing malady that affects an individual. It can occur to any of us at any time – early in the morning, during stressful situations like exams or business presentations, and after eating spicy foods.

Experts believe that 85 to 90 % of bad breath comes from the mouth – or more precisely, sources found in the mouth, such as leftover food particles and volatile sulfur compounds produced by the over 170 different types of bacteria living in the mouth. These bacteria feed on foods rich in proteins, such as meat, poultry, and dairy. And in the process of metabolizing these foods, the bacteria will release putrid waste products that causes bad odor.

Although these microorganisms naturally occur in the mouth, too much bacterial flora will result in the highly undesirable condition of bad breath. That is why dealing with bad breath means dealing with these bacteria. The best way to accomplish that, of course, is through proper oral hygiene.

Dealing with bad breath will most certainly involve brushing your teeth after every meal, flossing between teeth, and rinsing with antibacterial mouthwash. Doing all these things will remove the plaque, food debris, and other particles in your mouth that can lead to bad breath.

In addition, dealing with bad breath may also involve avoiding certain types of foods. Whether you like it or not, the foods you eat can affect your breath. That is why temporary bad breath often sets in after eating particularly spicy foods like those that contain a lot of garlic and onions.

These foods have odors that get expelled through the lungs after the foods have been digested and dissolved in the bloodstream. Once the blood moves towards the lungs, the odors are released through the nasal passages.

Practicing ordinary oral hygiene in dealing with bad breath is not guaranteed to work if you keep on eating these kinds of food. As mouthwash can only mask the odor and brushing and flossing can only keep bad odor from coming out of your mouth, nothing therefore can stop the odors from coming out of your nose.

Dealing with bad breath out of nose requires a more positive approach, such as avoiding or minimizing the intake of these foods.

There are also several other causes of bad breath, which when dealt with should solve the problem of bad breath. For instance, people with periodontal disease, or what is more commonly known as gum disease, perpetually expel a bad smell through their mouth when breathing or speaking. Dealing with bad breath in this case will have to involve dealing directly with the disease causing bad breath.

Many human beings have bad breath now and again. It is a constant or recurring case of bad breath that can offend friends and loved ones and become a real social problem. There are several causes of bad breath and, fortunately, most of them are easily dealt with using simple natural techniques. Whatever the cause of your bad breath be the most common remedy i.e. mouthwashes is not only ineffective, it is counterproductive also. A mouthwash is a blend of flavors, a bit of dye, and too much alcohol. While the claims that mouthwashes kill the bacteria is true, it is also true that the bacteria quickly come back again and in greater force than before one would have used the mouthwash. But in addition to being ineffective, mouthwashes are also being dangerous. Too much mouthwash is irritating to the gums, the palate, the tongue, and the mucous membranes of the mouth. In a small percentage of people, who are susceptible, and those who smoke and drink, heavy use of mouthwash can cause certain types of cancer.

Other ways to fight bad breath

If one does not wish to use anything in order to freshen up the breath, one can put a few drops of peppermint oil in a glass of water and rinse. Bad breath, or halitosis, has a number of causes, the most obvious one being bad dental hygiene. If one doesn’t brush your teeth regularly and well, bits of pieces of food will become lodged between your teeth and will decompose, causing a bad odor. One probably already knows that you should brush your teeth carefully twice a day, but there are some other measures you can take to fight bad breath.

Conclusion

Brushing the tongue is probably the single most effective thing you can do. In various researches, it has been shown that brushing the tongue alone is a better guard against bad breath than brushing only the teeth. Brushing both the teeth and tongue can help reduce bad breath due to poor dental hygiene almost entirely. One does not need to scrub your tongue. Just gently brush the tongue with a soft-bristled brush to wash away the microscopic bits of food that become trapped in the tiny protuberances.

How many times have you been told that you should floss each and every day? Probably more times than you can count. Do you floss every day? Most people do not. However, flossing is very important to your oral health and is also important to your breath. When you floss when you are supposed, you are taking a big step in making sure that small particles of food are removed and you are fighting off gum disease and halitosis.

When you brush your teeth, you are doing a lot to remove plaque build up on your teeth. However, in most cases, brushing is simply not enough. It takes something to reach those msall crevices and places in your mouth where the toothbrush just can’t reach. Flossing is often the ansertr. Your mom told you to do it, and your dentist tells you to do it, too. Now start doing it!

How to floss the right way: Have you ever been shown how to floss? As an adults probably not. When you were a child, you probably watched your dentist or teacher demonstrate the proper way. Well, here is a quick refresher course. First of all, you must choose the right kind of floss. There are lots of floss products out there and you need to make sure you are using the kind that is right for you. When you shop for floss, take a look at the packaging. You will see there are waxed and unwaxed floss, flavored and unflavored floss and wide and regular floss. The type that you will use will usually depend on your preferences. Try a couple of kinds and see what you like the best. Some people dislike flavored floss and other do not like the waxy kind.

After you have chosen your preferred dental floss, pick how you are going to get the job done. You can wrap it around your fingers on both ends (called the spool method), or you can try the look method, where you cut off a piece of floss and make a circle to fit between your teeth. When you use the spool method, you will use about 18 inches of floss and lightly wrap it around your fingers (don’t cut off your circulation). You will then push the floss gently between each tooth and sweep it in a side to side motion.

When you use the loop method, you will put your piece of floss in a circle and tie it off. Then you will put your fingers in the loop and use your index finger to guide it through your teeth. This is a bit harder to do, but people who have limited manual dexterity may like this method better.

You can also buy pre-strung flosser tools that will help you get in and around your teeth efficiently. These are great for kids too because they are small and do a great job of cleaning. These are portable for when you are on the go, too.

When you floss, you will need to make sure that you are paying special attention to those hard to reach and often ignored areas. When you floss on a regular basis, you are helping to fight off bad breath.

If you notice people generally avoiding you whenever you are around, then it is high time that you assess yourself and find out what is wrong about you? Have you been aware about your breath? Maybe you got bad breath that’s why they never get physically close when people talk with you. Bad breath, medically called as halitosis, can significantly affect your social life, so don’t allow it to become a hindrance to you.

If your bad breath is causing you embarrassment already, it is not going to do you good in any aspect. Psychologically and emotionally, it’s bound to disturb you until you lose your confidence. That is going to be very bad since a person with less confidence seldom succeeds and gets happy in life. So before all these terrible things happen to you, be sure to check on some of the ways on how to get rid of bad breath:

1.) Before anything else, you should the right thing by consulting your dentist or physician. Bad breath is usually developed when one indulges in poor hygiene habit; however, there are more cases wherein the condition is the result of some medical conditions. Therefore, checking with your physician will help you to assess what is the cause of your halitosis.

2.) Stick to your proper dental hygiene everyday. Brushing every after meal helps take away food and drink debris, which turn into bacteria inside the mouth causing bad breath to occur. Most dental hygienists recommend brushing in the morning and at night before retiring but some prefer to do it every after meal to stop any chances for the debris to turn into bacteria.

3.) Floss at least at night. Brushing alone does not completely remove all debris in the mouth. Flossing removes food particles stuck in between teeth; thus, inhibiting them from growing into germs.

4.) Brush tongue too. Experts say that most of the germs convene on the tongue. That is the reason why it is as much important scraping your tongue off with dirt as brushing teeth. There are tongue scrapers available in store, but you can use your toothbrush as well.

5.)Use mouth wash. There are anti-bacterial mouth wash available in stores. You can use it as after-brushing rinse to completely clean your whole mouth. Brushing and flossing are good for removing food particles in between teeth, but they don’t clean the other parts of the mouth. Most use mouth wash not only to kill bacteria in the mouth but also for that lingering fresh smell.

However, if bad breath still persists only after a brief time, there is really something wrong. Once again, checking your dentist or physician is the best thing to do.

6.) Don’t smoke. Needless to say, smoking tobacco or cigar is one of the biggest contributory factors to bad breath. It does not only make your breath smell foul but also ruins your teeth.

7.) Drink and drink water. Doing this does a lot of benefits to your body. That is already a fact. Don’t you know that it can prevent bad breath too? That’s because by keeping your mouth moist with water, it inhibits it from becoming dry; hence, keeping those germs away.

If you practice these things, bad breath will never be an issue hampering your social life. But remember that these things listed above are meant for those who have simple cases of bad breath. Chronic ones must be treated according to the recommendation of the medical experts as they can be more serious than expected.

Bad breath can really get you sick to the bones if you have it, which is why you need to know clearly if you do really have it in your mouth. This oral condition is usuall

Bad breath can really get you sick to the bones if you have it, which is why you need to know clearly if you do really have it in your mouth. This oral condition is usually caused by the bacteria that thrive between teeth, mouth walls, and most especially, by the tongue. If you are ashamed of admitting to others you have bad breath but they are clearly backing away from you when you are speaking, opt to self check. You can do it two ways:

1.) The anterior check. The anterior is the front most part of your tongue. Self test by licking your wrist and smelling it after it dries or after about five minutes. What it smells is just how your breath smells to others.

2.) The posterior check. The posterior of your tongue is the back part. This is where the bacteria causing your oral condition thrive. Scrape that part of your tongue with a metal or silver spoon. Normally, you will be able to get some white soft matter. Smell it. If it smells too bad to you then you got that chronic bad breath everyone is getting rid of.

Now that you know you have it in your mouth, you have to get rid of it by treating it either by using bad breath home remedy or with the help of a dental professional of your choice. If you opt to do it in both ways, then here are tips of how you do it.

1.) Improve your oral hygiene by properly brushing your teeth. If needed, switch to a better toothpaste of your choice; or if you are seeing a professional, you can ask for an advice of which toothpaste to use. Use a mouthwash or natural mint-based deodorizer right after brushing or immediately after eating dairy foods, meats, and fishes. Do not use sweet or tablet forms of deodorizer as these may even leave residues that will complicate or even aggravate your oral condition. The brushing procedure must also be bettered by brushing the teeth first, massage the gums and cheek walls, and brush the tongue from the back to the front.

2.) Eat plenty of fibrous fruits and foods. This will help you regain fresher breath and even better the condition of your gums and teeth.

3.) Drink plenty of water while avoiding too much coffee and alcohol. Doing so will replace the saliva that you need to maintain the teeth and the overall hygiene of your mouth. Heavy drinks like coffee and alcohol leave residues that may even aggravate your present oral condition though.

4.) Visit your oral professional for advices. If you have an official dentist, go for regular tracking of your oral condition. The same also applies when you have hired a dentist or bad breath professional to track on your improvement.

Don’t let a simple bad breath get to you. Not even a choric one by immediately contacting your oral professional for an advice or treatment. You also need to be very flexible in doing the treatment yourself to ensure that you get the best result you wanted. And if you are already fairing well, don’t stop from exercising these good preventive maintenances.

Continue it and if you are already satisfied that you are well, you can reduce the use of deodorizer. Replace it with a sugar-free gum that will also stimulate your gums and the production of saliva in your mouth.
